We investigate the structure of collinear singularities in the electroweak theory and in particular the consequences of physical longitudinal degrees of freedom for gauge bosons. We construct a systematic scheme for evaluating the leading (pole) and next-to-leading (logarithmic) contributions. We find substantial corrections to the schemes referred to as effective vector boson approximation. We show the validity of the method in the particular case of H0 production through WW fusion when compared with available approximate estimates.
