PECULIAR PORE STRUCTURE OF THE COKE COATING FORMED ON PT-SN/ GAMMA-AL2O3 CATALYSTS

Pt-Sn/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts for the conversion of hexane displayed propensity toward surface coking. The changes of catalyst porosity as a consequence of coke deposition are described. The carbonaceous deposit was found to significantly enlarge the cumulative pore volume V(cum), cumulative pore surface S(cum), and specific surface area S(BET). As a result of a comparison of the nitrogen isotherms as well as pore size distribution curves of the samples before and after coke deposition, coke was found to have its own porous structure which was developed on the basis of the catalyst porous system.
