SURFACE STRESS OF ALUMINUM AND JELLIUM

摘要
First-principles calculations of the surface stress tensor of the aluminum (111) surface are presented that indicate the presence of a tensile stress. We compare our results for aluminum with those for jellium and investigate the origins of the surface stress. At high electron densities, such as that of aluminum, the kinetic-energy term gives the dominant contribution to the surface stress. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
