Melt-textured YBa2Cu3Oy superconductor containing fine Y2BaCuO5 inclusions (a few hundreds nanometers in size) was prepared by using of attrition-milled YBa2Cu3Oy/Y2BaCuO5 powder with 1 wt% CeO2 addition. It is found that the combination of the CeO2 addition and the mechanical milling of the powder mixture is effective in reducing Y2BaCuO5 size. The critical current density (J(c)) of the sample containing fine Y2BaCuO5 is higher than that of the sample containing coarse Y2BaCuO5. J(c) for H//c-axis of Y1.8Ba2.4Cu3.4Oy With coarse Y2BaCuO5 was 1.1x10(4) A/cm(2) and 0.56 x 10(4) A/cm(2), while J, of Y1.8Ba2.4Cu3.4Oy With fine Y2BaCuO5 was 2.0 x 10(4) A/cm(2) and 1.16 x 10(4) A/cm(2) at 1 T, 2 T and 77 K, respectively.
