摘要：

Using crosscountry data pooled for 1985 and 1990, we analyze the relationship between women's share of the labor force and the processes of long-term economic development, and macroeconomic changes associated with structural adjustment. We find that the relationship between long-term development and women's share of the labor force is U-shaped. Controlling for the feminization U, we also find that structural adjustment policies have led to an increase in feminization of the labor force via worsening income distribution and increased openness.
