CRITICAL REMARKS ON QUANTUM-SIZE EFFECTS IN EMBEDDED MICROCRYSTALS

摘要
Using effective medium theory the apparent variation of oscillator-frequency and -strength is calculated for a model three-oscillator semiconductor embedded in glass. These effects have to be taken into consideration for the determination of confinement effects from experimental data. For illustration the experimentally determined size dependence of absorption spectra of CuBr microcrystals can well be described by shape variation and increases of the damping parameters neglecting confinement effects. © 1991.
