ULTRASONIC-ATTENUATION IN SILICA AEROGELS

摘要
The attenuation of ultrasonic waves in base-catalyzed SiO2 aerogels with densities between 70 and 420 kg m-3 in the frequency range from 0.5 to 8 MHz has been measured. Aerogel specimens were investigated under ambient conditions, after heat treatment and in various gases at different pressures, in order to obtain information on the attenuation mechanisms. The attenuation for untreated aerogels has a linear to quadratic dependence on frequency and decreases with increasing density. After heat treatment, i.e., desorption of water, the attenuation is drastically reduced and does not show a significant frequency dependence.
