摘要
Thc density, biomass and population structure of Turbo sarmaticus at three different sites in the Cape St Francis region, together with its distribution along the tidal gradient, were investigated. Differences in density and population structure between sites can be attributed mainly to different degrees of exposure to wave action. An intraspecific size gradient was found, mean shell length decreasing in an upshore direction. The yield potential of the species was investigated and it appears that present levels of exploitation in the study area are sustainable. The present minimum legal size should not be lowered.
