摘要
Oxidation of benzoic and phthalic acids in acetic acid solution has been studied using a silica-supported Pd catalyst with the oxidant being in situ-generated hydrogen peroxide. Benzoic acid yields the three isomers of hydroxybenzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and some unidentified byproducts. Phthalic acid gives 4-hydroxyphthalic acid almost exclusively. The effect of Cu ions dissolved in the solution is discussed.
