The destruction of free radicals by gamma-irradiation at 77°K has been measured by electron-spin-resonance spectroscopy. The destruction process is apparently first-order with respect to radiation dose. Values of the rate constant for destruction of radicals in several compounds are: DL-valine, 0·14 (MR)-1; N-acetyl-DL-valine, 0·07 (MR)-1; L-threonine, 0·09 (MR)-1; dihydrothymine, 0·07 (MR)-1.
