摘要
A range of organisms was labelled with [S-35]methionine, S-35 inorganic sulphate and [S-35]thioATP. The pellets and many of the supernatants were electrophoresed on 12% SDS polyacrylamide gels. The dried gels were scanned using the Ambis Beta scanner to enable computer analysis of the data. This paper is concerned with the computer analysis of the raw data. The data for each lane was extracted to give a histogram that represented a 'fingerprint' of the corresponding organism. Histograms have been grouped in a number of ways, firstly to give dendrograms that highlight the relationship between different genera and species. Secondly, a database was constructed to examine the use of this system in identification. It was found that the database correctly matched organisms challenged with the database 92% of the time.
