摘要
In the past ten years, laboratory studies and open pond experiments at Hutt Lagoon, in Western Australia, have developed a commercial process, for extracting the food colouring, beta-carotene, from algal cultures. The hypersaline microscopic alga, Dunaliella salina, is grown in 50 ha of open ponds, harvested, and the beta-carotene extracted, concentrated and packaged as 2% and 20% suspensions in vegetable oil.
