MORMONISM - CATHOLIC, PROTESTANT, DIFFERENT

This paper examines similarities and differences in Roman Catholic, Protestant and Mormon religious beliefs and moral values. Questionnaire data were collected from 405 adults attending church in one of 12 congregations representing six denominations. Factor analysis of the items and multivariate analysis of variance of scales assessing these factors were used to illuminate Mormon and non-Mormon similarities and differences. These data indicate that Mormons have adopted many religious beliefs and moral values accepted by other Christian groups (especially conservative ones) while at the same time strongly holding to a set of religious views very different from those of the other Christian groups studied.
