AMPLITUDE ANALYSIS OF GAMMA-GAMMA-]PI-PI FROM THRESHOLD TO 1.4 GEV

A new amplitude analysis of results on gamma-gamma- -->pi+pi- from the Mark II and gamma-gamma- --> pi(o)pi(o) from the Crystal Ball experiments is reported. Key constraints from the low energy theorem and from analyticity and unitarity that relate gamma-gamma- -->pi-pi to other meson scattering reactions are built into the trial forms. Despite these restrictions, the limited angular converge of the experiments means that solutions with quite different proportions of S wave and D waves of both helicities 0 and 2 are admitted above 1 GeV. This leads to a much wider range of possibilities for the couplings of the broad resonances f(o)(epsilon) and f2(1270) than is commonly supposed. The better fits have GAMMA(fo) in excess of 4 keV and a ratio of GAMMA(fo)/GAMMA(f2) greater than 2.
