摘要
The effect of the measurement technique on the apparent fracture toughness, or KIc value of a transparent polycrystalline MgAl2O4 spinel was investigated. Results from macronotched specimens are compared with those of microflaw techniques from room temperature to 1000°C. Contributions of the process zone wake in terms of grain bridging and interlocking frictional effects are qualitatively addressed and the effects of grain size are also discussed.
