OVERCOMING SUPPORT LIMITATIONS IN MAGNETICALLY STABILIZED FLUIDIZED-BED SEPARATORS

摘要
Many of the perceived limitations of magnetically stabilized bed separators are related to the support material. The physical characteristics of the support limit the fluid velocities that can be used in the column; the chemical properties govern the separation ability. The data presented in this paper, however, show how magnetically stabilized beds can be used beyond these perceived limitations. While fluid velocities in normal fluidized beds are limited by the terminal velocity of the particles, stabilized beds can actually be operated above this zero-field value. In addition, nonmagnetic supports can be used in the stabilized bed, eliminating the need for new magnetic support development.
