摘要
This paper is intended to provide orientation for the other contributions published in this issue. The principles of experimental microdosimetry are outlined as are the dosimetric properties of tissue-equivalent proportional counters. Microdosimetric event size spectra are explained in terms of the underlying physics of radiation interaction and their particular value in radiation measurement science is discussed.
