摘要
The Fulton-Gouterman transformation of the exciton-phonon Hamiltonian elucidates most clearly the two basic antagonistic tendencies of the dynamical problem: self-trapping and anti-self-trapping. The solution of the FG equation for the ground state is either of an antisqueezed (small coupling) or of a displacive-reflective nature (intermediate and strong coupling). In both cases the phonon subsystem is softened and the effective Debye-Waller screening is diminished.
