The biodegradable anastomotic ring (BAR) has proven to be safe and as effective as suture anastomosis. Its potential advantages include reduced operative time and uniformity amongst surgeons in performing intestinal anastomoses. However, with technical modifications it has the potential advantage of allowing an intestinal anastomosis to be performed within the peritoneal cavity. We report two cases of laparoscopic-assisted hemicolectomy using the biodegradable anastomotic ring in both benign and malignant disease.
