OXIDATIVE DIMERIZATION OF METHANE IN MOLTEN NA2CO3-K2CO3 EUTECTIC AT 800-DEGREES-C - COMPARISON WITH OTHER MOLTEN-SALTS

摘要
Molten Na2CO3-K2CO3 eutectic was used at 800-degrees-C for the oxidative dimerization of methane to C2 hydrocarbons. A mixture of methane and oxygen (CH4: O2 = 3) was bubbled through the catalytic phase in a horizontal reactor (small amounts of catalyst mixed with alumina particles) or a vertical reactor (large amounts of catalyst). A moderate catalytic effect was observed in basic media, correlated with the stabilization of peroxide species (yield of methane conversion 13% and C2selectivity 41%). These results were compared to those obtained in molten Li2CO3 and Ba(OH)2.
