摘要
The problem of optimizing the schedule for a night of observing is described. The problem is a dynamic one for the observer changing through the night as key observations are made and weather conditions vary. A software tool is developed as an advisor to give the observer an optimized schedule. The scheduler is designed with operation on a personal computer as an objective. The structure and basis of such a tool are discussed and various solutions evaluated using the artificial intelligence techniques of constraint satisfaction and heuristics. The solutions are evaluated on the archived schedules available over STARLINK from the INT group of telescopes on La Palma.
