THE EFFECT OF COSOLUTES ON THE AQUEOUS SOLUBILITIES AND OCTANOL WATER PARTITION-COEFFICIENTS OF SELECTED POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYL CONGENERS

摘要
Aqueous solubilities (S) and 1-octanol/water partition coefficients (K(ow)) of four PCBs-chlorobiphenyl, 2,4,6-trichlorobiphenyl, 2,3,4,5-tetrachlorobiphenyl, and 2,2,4,4,6,6'-hexachlorobiphenyl-were determined both individually and in pairs, using a generator-column technique, to investigate the effect of cosolutes on S and K(ow). No statistical differences between S and K(ow) measured individually and in pairs were observed for the four PCBs in 20 out of 24 cases. In the other four cases S or K(ow) measured in the presence of a cosolute was only slightly different from that observed individually.
