摘要：

This article presents the results of a study carried out for CNRS policy makers. The goal of the study was two-fold; first, it was aimed at evaluating the research effort devoted to "understanding chemical reactions" both in France and throughout the world; second, it was designed to test the usefulness of bibliometric techniques for strategic analysis. One feature of this article merits special attention. It is co-signed by the researchers who carried out the study and by the policy makers for whom it was intended. 1
