摘要
It is shown that diamond films are known to exhibit interesting electronic properties which, if commensurate with single crystal values, will potentially create the opportunity for advanced electronic devices ranging from simple thermistors through to FETs and, perhaps, lasers. The more futuristic applications still require detailed evaluation and will rely upon the availability of n-type dopants and heteroepitaxial films, neither of which have been convincingly demonstrated thus far. Within Europe the Workshop demonstrated a critical need for basic research plus precise applications specifications to target. The emerging role of the CEC was identified in catalysing programmes and the need for strong collaboration to accelerate progress was also highlighted. Although following the USA and Japan during the 80s in diamond electronics, it was clear that the European contribution to the field would be strong during the 90s.
