LABORATORY ACQUIRED MELIOIDOSIS

Described herein is a case of laboratory acquired melioidosis resulting probably from the inhalation of an infectious aerosol. The course of the disease suggested that the acute form of melioidosis was arrested by kanamycin therapy and that tetracycline, sulfonamides and ampicillin contributed to the resolution of residual lesions with complete recovery. The epidemiology of melioidosis and the identification of Pseudomonas pseudomallei are briefly reviewed. © 1968.
