LOW FIELD MAGNETORESISTANCE UP TO 1T IN AS DOPED Y1BA2CU3O9-Y

We have measured a large magnetoresistance at low fields up to 1 T below a temperature of 81 K in an As doped Y1Ba2Cu3O9-y sample showing zero resistance at 77 K. Doping the sample with 10 wt%. As during preparation results in a marked decrease in the Tc and a broadening of the transition width as seen from a comparison of the resistivity plots of a pure and a doped sample. This is probably due to As going to Cu sites or the interspaces in the Y1Ba2Cu3O9-y lattice. The magnetoresistance of the doped sample is comparable in magnitude to that of a pure Y1Ba2Cu3O9-y sample below the onset transition temperature. © 1990.
