Ion distribution in Zn-bearing ferrite ZnFe3-xO4 was examined using Mossbauer spectra at room temperature. Ion distribution models I and II have been proposed for the samples prepared by a solid-state reaction and from an aqueous Zn(II)-Fe(II) hydroxides suspension, respectively. (Znx2+Fe1-x3+)tet[(Fe1-x2+Fe1+x-y3+)oct1(Fey3+)oct2]O4 (y less-than-or-equal-to x) (I) (Zn(x)2+Fe1-x3+)tet[(Fe1-x-y2+Fe1-x-z3+)oct1(Fe(y)2+Fe(z)3+)oct2]O4 (y less-than-or-equal-to x, y less-than-or-equal-to z) (II)
