摘要
Occurrence of serrated yielding coincides with absence of S prime precipitates (precursor to Al//2CuMg) in the microstructure. When Cu and Mg remain in solid solution (S prime absent), serrated yielding is observed. Aging treatments that lead to copious precipitation of S prime inhibit serrated yielding. Links are established between aging treatment, microstructure and the Portevin-le Chatelier effect.
