CALCULATION OF ELECTRON-IMPACT IONIZATION OF LITHIUM-LIKE TARGETS

We present a systematic study of electron-impact direct total ionization cross sections and associated spin asymmetries of lithium-like targets, Li,...,O5+, calculated using the convergent close-coupling (CCC) method. For these targets we believe that the CCC method yields very accurate total ionization cross sections below the autoionization threshold. Agreement with experiment is found to be quite varied, and is satisfactory only for the Li, N4(+) and 0(5+) targets. The ionization spin asymmetries become more substantial at high energies as the ionic charge increases, and are still significant at 1 keV for the e-O5+ ionization system.
