In a controlled release system of a substance of a polymer material the permeability of the polymer matrix, which depends on the nature of the polymer (e. g. , hydrophobicity, electric charge, or crystallinity), is a dominant factor in the release profile of the substance. If the nature of the polymer is changed by a specific stimulation, the release rate of the substance may change in response to it. In this paper the authors describe the photoinduced change in the release of an organic compound from a polymer device prepared by dispersion of ethyl p-aminobenzoate (EAB), a probe to estimate the release behavior, in the amphiphilic azoaromatic polymer membrane. Experimental results are tabulated, plotted, and evaluated.
