[Bis(diphenylphosphino)methylamine]dicyanoplatinum (3), C27H23P2PtN3, M(r) = 646.56, monoclinic, P2(1)/n, a = 9.506 (3), b = 13.635 (5), C = 19.669(7) angstrom, beta = 93.32 (3)-degrees, V = 2545(3) angstrom3, Z = 4, D(x) = 1.69 g cm-3, graphite-monochromatized Mo K-alpha radiation, lambda = 0.71073 angstrom, mu = 57.1 cm-1, F(000) = 1256, room temperature, R = 0.041 for 3798 observed reflections. Three crystal structures of the bis(diphenylphosphino)methylamine (dppma) ligand chelating to a Pt-group metal atom are reported. The complexes (1) and (2) have chloride ligands trans to the dppma ligand while the third complex, (3), has cyanide ligands trans to the dppma ligand. The complexes have a highly distorted, square-planar coordination geometry. The ring strain associated with the four-membered chelate rings is evident in the distorted tetrahedral angles at P, which range from 93.3 (2) to 122.2 (5)-degrees, and the trigonal-planar angles at N which are in the range 100.0 (6) to 128.7 (3)-degrees.
