摘要
A short, stereoselective synthesis of a conformationally restricted spirocyclic analog 2 of the potent substance P antagonist (+/-)-CP-99,994, utilizing the versatile chemistry of the nitro group is described. The key features of the synthesis are the contributions of the nitro group to the success of Knoevenagl and Michael reactions, and its innate ability to be the source of a nitrogen atom.
