To improve magnetic properties and hot workability of anisotropic Nd-Fe-Co-B-Ga die upset magnets effects of inner lubricants were studied. BN, MOS2 and graphite powder were employed as inner lubricants. Additions of small amount of graphite powder were remarkably effective among 3 types of inorganic agents. By employing liquid lubricants instead of inorganic solid lubricants, further improvement of magnetic properties and hot flowability were achieved. For example, die upset magnets with 0.3 wt% oleic acid showed 4π1r=12.6kG, iHc=15. 7k0e and (BH)max=38.5MG0e. The increase in energy product was 7 MG0e compared with unlubricated magnets. Study of X-ray diffraction revealed that the improvement was caused by better crystal alignment along the compression direction during plastic flow. Also inner lubricants work effectively as grain growth inhibitors in the interface of flakes during hot working. © 1990 IEEE
