摘要：

This paper presents a scheme to develop a diagnostic model of a product or process concurrently with the design, at the design stage. This method is consistent with the principles of design. A diagnostic search procedure, which can be used with this approach, is presented. Generic class diagnostic modules that allow the reuse of diagnostic knowledge are also defined.
