MAGNETIC-SUSCEPTIBILITY IN THE NORMAL-STATE - A TOOL TO OPTIMIZE T(C) WITHIN A GIVEN SUPERCONDUCTING OXIDE SYSTEM

摘要
We compare the static magnetic susceptibilities of La2-xSrxCuO4, YBa2Cu3O6+y, Bi2Sr1.6La0.4CuO6+y, Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+y, Tl2Ba2CuO6+y, Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8+y, and Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10+y as a function of the oxygen content. The main results are that (1) the spin susceptibility in the normal state chi(s) is primarily determined by the CuO2 layers, (2) the Meissner fraction increases markedly with the transition temperature T(c), and (3) for samples with the optimum value of T(c), chi(s) correlates linearly with the calculated band-structure density of states at the Fermi energy. We also discuss how the value of the magnetic susceptibility in the normal state can be used to optimize T(c) within a given compound system.
