摘要
Most performance studies of the Ethernet protocol have been conducted by examining the protocol behavior in discrete (slotted) times. Such a time-domain approach has been recognized to produce worst case performance figures. In this paper, the Ethernet protocol is analyzed by the space-time model which considers both spatial and time dimensions. By the space-time model the occurrence of a collision is determined by not only frame arrival times but also locations of nodes. Through some approximations, the expected throughput of the Ethernet protocol is derived when frames arrive by a Poisson process. Numerical results show that the expected throughput can be significantly higher than earlier time-domain results when a is large.
