ISOTOPE EFFECT IN DISSOCIATIVE ADSORPTION OF O2 ON AG(111)

摘要
A study of dissociative adsorption/recombinative desorption of O2 on Ag(111) is presented. Adsorption is performed at high pressure with a mixture containing isotopically labeled O-16(2) and O-18(2) molecules. Desorption is induced using the method of temperature-programmed desorption. The results show that the dissociative sticking probability for O-16(2) is 1.4 times the dissociative sticking probability for O-18(2), independent of coverage. This surprising effect is interpreted as a signature of stretching of the molecule through an activation barrier into a classically forbidden region.
