RESISTIVITY ANOMALY AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF HOFE4AL8 SINGLE-CRYSTALS

Measurements of electrical resistivity, AC and DC susceptibilities of a HoFe4Al8 single crystal were performed in the temperature range 4.2-300 K. Magnetization studies were carried out at 4.2 and 77 K in fields up to 14 T. Magnetic anisotropy was observed for all directional investigations in the whole temperature range. An anomalous increase of the electrical resistivity on cooling was found starting at 13 K. A T-2-dependence of the electrical resistivity in the range 30-90 K and an antiferromagnetic transition at 185 K were observed. Thermomagnetic effects occurred in DC susceptibility below 40 K. AC susceptibility revealed a sharp peak at 10 K.
