THE EFFECT OF MICROVISE GAP WIDTH ON MICROBOND PULL-OUT TEST-RESULTS

We have examined the effects of the location of load application in microbond pull-out experiments by varying the gap width between the microvise plates. Apparent IFSS values for Kevlar(R) 49/Epon 828 specimens increase as the gap widens, leveling off at higher gap widths. On analyzing the stress distribution and force balance, we conclude that this increase in IFSS represents an overestimation of the intrinsic value, which is best evaluated with the gap width as small as practicable.
