REDUCED ADHERENCE AND INHIBITION OF HYPHAL DEVELOPMENT OF CANDIDA-ALBICANS BY THE ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT POLYNOXYLIN

Polynoxyhn (Anaflex R ) was investigated for antimicrobial activities ancillary to its known cidal and static effects. Significant reductions in adherence of Candida albicans blastospores (oral strain) to human buccal epithelial cells were observed following polynoxylin treatment. The anti-adherence activity was concentration and time-dependent. Treatment of the epithelial cells did not result in significant reductions in adherence. Polynoxylin was also shown to inhibit the germination and hyphal development of C. albicans. © 1988 Oxford University Press. All rights reserved.
