URBACH RULE IN THE LUMINESCENCE SPECTRUM OF HGI2 AND A META-STABLE LOCALIZED EXCITON

摘要
It is found that the Urbach rule stands for the luminescence of a HgI//2 crystal and hence, the excitons with the energy corresponding to the Urbach tail (Urbach excitons) are in the thermal equilibrium. It is suggested from the excitation spectra and the decay time of the luminescence suggest that the Urbach excitons move in the crystal resulting in annihilation around an impurity or a defect.
