摘要
The theory of plate tectonics holds that the crust of the earth consists of plates some 100 kilometers thick that are moving with respect to one another. Continents rift apart over millions of years, and in the process they deform. This article presents a study of this rifting, which is beginning to reveal the properties of the plates that compose the earth's crust.
