摘要
The effect of Cl** minus and F** minus additions on the reactivation of a passive iron has been studied in acid-SO//4 and alkaline-borate solutions. Cathodic reduction curves were also studied in the alkaline solution by investigating the combined effect of heat treatment and the scanning rate. The variables effecting the cathodic reduction curves were reviewed with particular attention to the second potential arrest. The results of halide additions showed that there was an induction time ( tau ) before film breakdown only in the acid-SO//4 solutions with Cl** minus concentration greater than 8. 46 multiplied by 10** minus **4 M. This explained by the pore plugging mechanism promoted by FeSO//4 precipitation blocking the incipient pits within the passive film faults.
