Nucleoside N-deoxyribosy1 transferases (EC 2.4.2.6) from Lactobacillus leichmanii will catalyse the transfer of 2-deoxyribose from thymidine or 2’-deoxycytidine to 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide or benzimidazole. 1-3-D-2'-Deoxyribofuranosy1-5-aminoimidazole-4-car-boxamide and 1-3-D-2’-deoxyribofuranosyl-benzimidazole, respectively, are the only products which are formed. © 1990, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
