5-Acetamido-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-benzo[c]pyrrole (II) can be polymerised by oxidation to a material of a conductivity of 10(-2)scm-1. The conductivity is higher than can be expected for a poly(cycloalkyl[c]pyrrol) substituted with a cycloalkyl-substituent of the same size and depends less on the counterion. In contrast to cycloalkyl-substituent of the polymers, a polymer obtained from (II) is stable to overoxidation. The cyclic voltammogramm of this polymer shows two oxidation peaks (-.1V, 1.38V vs Ag/AgCl). The polymer can be oxidized up to a degree of oxidation of 0.8 charges / pyrrole-ring. The first oxidation peak is associated with creation and destruction of radicals, the second oxidation peak is not.
