ANALYSIS OF GEOMETRIES FOR EFFICIENT ORTHOGONAL-PUMP 4-WAVE-MIXING IN INVERTED ND-YAG

The process of saturable-gain degenerate four-wave mixing with orthogonally polarised pump beams in a Nd:YAG amplifier is investigated experimentally and theoretically. It is shown that while the conjugate energy reflectivity and extraction efficiency of the conventional single-pass DFWM geometry is enhanced by increasing the small-signal gain of the amplifier, even greater improvements can be achieved by employing novel two-pass geometries. A phase-conjugate reflectivity of 46500% is experimentally recorded in an optimised two-pass geometry.
