SELECTIVITIES FOR HYDROCARBON REACTIONS ON SMSI TITANIA-SUPPORTED PLATINUM FORMED BY HIGH-TEMPERATURE REDUCTION

High-temperature reduced (HTR) Pt/TiO2 catalysts exhibit strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) as inferred from negligible hydrogen chemisorption take-up and moderate activity for skeletal reactions of alkanes. Using model reactants αγ, αδ and αδ hydrogenolysis routes are found whereas αβ hydrogenolysis is more severely depressed. Terminal C-C bond scission in hydrogenolysis as well as suppression of bond-shift rearrangement and of SCM cyclisation indicate a strong preference for carbanionic Pt-alkyl bond formation and are compatible with an electron shift from TiOx moieties to Pt in these HTR Pt/TiO2 catalysts. © 1990.
