PREASYMPTOTICS OF COLOR TRANSPARENCY

Available experimental data on quasifree hadron scattering on nuclei do not achieve the asymptotic regime where both the transverse momentum and the energy are high enough to make a nucleus transparent in accordance with QCD expectations. We analyzed 40 GeV data on charge-exchange pion scattering on nuclei at moderate transferred momenta and found a clear signal of the colour transparency. We investigated also the influence of varying the size of the hadron during propagation through a nucleus at moderate energies within a quantum-mechanical approach, and compare the results with data on pp quasielastic scattering at CM 90-degrees. We argue also that the colour transparency can exceed unity due to a short-range modulation of the hadron-nucleon scattering amplitude with nuclear medium.
