STRUCTURE AND ORIENTATION OF OLEIC-ACID ADSORBED ONTO SILICA-GEL

摘要
Infrared spectra for oleic acid adsorbed on silica gel were obtained. Changes in SiOH bands and in the oleic acid carbonyl band indicate that oleic acid chemisorbs by hydrogen bonding of the carbonyl group to free SIGH groups on the surface. The shifts in the position of the carbonyl band suggest the presence of both singly and doubly hydrogen bonded structures. Changes in the relative intensities of the symmetric and asymmetric CH2 stretching bands are interpreted as being due to dipole-dipole interactions for physically adsorbed oleic acid laying flat on the surface.
