摘要
We agree that differences exist in relative rates of development between anterior and posterior teeth in apes and humans. However, we suggest that these differences result from a prolonged developmental retardation of the human molar dentition, and not from relatively earlier onset of calcification or more rapid development of the human anterior teeth. Further-more, we see evidence for the existence of major differences between apes and humans in relative developmental rates within the molar field. Finally, we suggest that linear regression analysis is not an appropriate tool for the statistical analysis of a decidely non-linear developmental process like calcification of the mammalian dentition. © 1992 Academic Press Limited.
